Where Inspiration Blooms, the craft and wellness venue in Chartridge, just outside Chesham will be running a wellbeing festival from this Saturday 4th until Sunday 12th July.  After being closed since early March, Jules and Caroline, two local school-friend mums who set up the business 2 years ago, wanted to create a wellbeing festival with as many different activities to help people with easing themselves out of lockdown.  Caroline explains

“We originally set up Where Inspiration Blooms as a space for people to learn something new and leave feeling better than when they arrived. Sometimes learning a new skill can be more than just being taught how to do something. When your mind and hands are focussed on learning a new craft, it can allow you to feel a state of flow, which has similar stress relieving properties to practicing mindfulness, meditating or being in nature (something we have both felt has been incredibly helpful during this time).”

Jules adds “We believe that craft, nature and gentle wellbeing activities have a huge role to play in helping us all to move forward from the lockdown period and in this festival we hope you will find something which appeals to you.  We hope that it brings you some much needed joy and inspiration after such a stressful time.”

Over the course of the week Where Inspiration Blooms will be running workshops across a wide range of activities from Making A Wood Fired Cob Oven to Willow Weaving, watercolour painting to arm knitting, pottery to forest bathing!  They also have a selection of classes for families to attend including an evening safari nature walk to find bats and owls, yoga and painting classes.

Where Inspiration Blooms Workshops

Watercolour for Beginners | Tuesday 7th July 2-5pm | £35 per person

Learn the very basics of watercolours from our expert local professional artist Jay Nolan-Latchford. With all materials provided you’ll be guided step by step through colour mixing, techniques such as wet on wet, graduated washes and blending. It’s a chance to find out about different papers, brushes and trouble shooting. You can ask lots of questions and experiment with a wide range of paints and brushes. You’ll leave with several completed worksheets and a new found love of watercolours!

‘Beasts of the Night’ Nature Safari – Festival | Fri 10th July from 8.30pm to 10pm |£15 per family/£5 per person

If you’ve been trying to find ways to make home schooling more interesting then this could be just the thing!  Join us for a great fun evening hunt, looking & listening out for ‘Creatures of the Night’ with Jools Hopton of ‘Nature’s Jewels’.  Our nature safari is suitable for the whole family so should be an evening to remember. We will meet outside the back of The Barn, where we will make a mask before heading off on a bug hunt in the meadow. Then as the sunlight fades we’ll set off with bat detectors for a twilight walk searching for bats, owls and deer as we listen to the sounds of the night.

Finally as the evening draws to a close we will settle down for hot chocolate/tea/coffee and biscuits by the Fairy Circle.

Don’t forget your torch, insect repellent (for those naughty midges), and a coat or warm jumper to keep you snug once the sun goes down.

Family Yoga Classes – Morning of Sunday 12th July £15 per pairing

Join our lovely teacher Jo Baker as she leads 3 family yoga classes, two for families with children aged 4 to 9 and one for parent and teen (10 years +).

We really hope that this class will take place outside in the beautiful grounds of Chartridge Lodge…but if the British weather defeats us it will be inside!

It’s sometimes hard to tell just how much of an impact the last few months have had on our children so these class has been designed by Jo, to be a relaxing and bonding yoga session. Taking time to breath together and support each others weight through a series of poses, that will help to strengthen their growing bodies and ease your aches and pains!
