Last week we headed along to the new refurbished Jolly Farmer (previously known as the Village Hall) for dinner with friends. The place looks amazing and they have transformed an old tired pub into an upmarket restaurant. There is a very nice cosy bar area to the right of the restaurant plus there is a fantastic outside seating area overlooking the common which would be perfect in warmer months. The food was good but we all commented that it was on the expensive side so we would probably consider this as a place for special occasions. One thing that really stood out was that they are missing a set menu to compete with the likes of The Three Oaks which is just down the road and at a similar price point. The Three Oaks offer a set lunch (£12 for 2 courses or £15 for 3 courses ) and dinner menu ( £15 for 2 courses and £19 for 3 courses) which is excellent value for money. The staff were all very nice and attentive without being over the top. I think that the restaurant is a nice addition to the area and I am sure that they will do very well.
