We caught up with the lovely Sophie from Target Training Club to find out what she thought about the new Chiltern’s Vintage Cinema pop up….

“With running a business and our three children in tow, we always jump at the chance for a ‘child free’ night out. I stumbled across the Chiltern Vintage Cinema on Facebook and eagerly registered my interest. ‘Pop Up’ cinemas are really popular in London at the moment so I was delighted to see an opportunity to experience this on our own doorstep.

For us it was a no brainer, Pretty Woman was the film of choice and this was showing at The Kings Arms in Old Amersham. We planned to arrive a bit earlier so we could have a drink in the main bar first, and then headed up to The Chapel just after 7pm when the doors opened. We were greeted by a group of retro looking ushers who guided us on where to go and what to do once inside. There was great buzzy atmosphere, a bar to my left and a pick n mix and popcorn stall on my right. We got a bottle of wine which you were able to take through with you and picked a spot to wait by the main doors. Lucky enough as I did not realise seating was not allocated and was on a first come first serve basis. The doors opened and the stampede of people proceeded.

It was a beautiful room filled with high ceilings and character, on the ground floor there was a sea of bean bags surrounded by flickering candlelight and in the top mezzanine were rows of chairs. I had fortunately paid extra for the bean bags so we headed straight for the second row slap bang in the middle and pitched up next to a little table to house our drinks. Food was served immediately, an American Chicken Slider and Root Vegetable Crisps. If I am being really honest the food was not as I expected and we were a little disappointed, however it didn’t matter too much as we were there for the experience and what a great one it was. There was an interval half way through where you could stretch your legs, grab an ice cream and tea and coffee was served. All the staff were extremely warming and happy to help.

Overall it was a great experience and I would highly recommend you pop along to see what it’s all about

Top tips:

  • Take cash to purchase some goodies
  • Seating is allocated on a first come first service basis so make sure you’re at the front of the queue to get the best seats
  • Pay the extra to get the bean bags at the front.
