This week we headed along to Top Golf in Watford to meet friends. Topgolf is a game that anyone can play, scoring points by hitting micro-chipped golf balls at giant dartboard-like targets on an outfield. The closer you get your ball to the centre or ‘bullseye’ and the further the distance, the more points earned.
Top Golf have a fab, ‘Eat, Drink & Play’ school holiday offer* where you get a meal, drink and 2 games of Topgolf for just £10 for juniors and £16 for adults. The offer is valid in the school holidays between Monday and Thursday from 11-1pm and then again from 4-6pm. You just need to make sure you dispense the balls and order the food during your specified time slot – in our case before 1pm.
We met at 11.30am and it was busy but we were told we were only 11th in the queue. To take advantage of the offer you need to have a membership card. I opted for the 30 day taster card which cost £2 per person but it’s definitely worth considering the lifetime membership card for £15 per person which include 4 free games (so it pays for itself). I paid £36 for 3 children. Once you’ve booked, you’re sent a text message with a link allowing you to see your position in the queue and as soon as the bay becomes available they text you again with the bay number. After paying we headed to the bar to grab a drink, order our lunch and wait until it was our turn.
A bay became available at around12.15pm so we headed over, the children collected their balls, chose their clubs and started to play. Our food arrived during the game and so the children were able to eat and play. There are Topgolf “Bay Hosts,” on hand who can also take your order and deliver food and drinks directly to your bay if you haven’t pre ordered. As there were 5 children, the 2 games lasted for ages as they had 40 balls each to hit J so we didn’t leave until about 3.30pm.
We’ve been to a few parties at Top Golf before, but we’ve never been there as a family and I have to say I would thoroughly recommend it, especially if you plan your visit when they have a special offer on as it’s really good value for money. You can view all their current offers here.
Overall, the price is definitely worth it and it’s no different in paying for a couple of games of bowling. A brilliant day out – we will definitely be back again soon and may even go one weekend with Mr Chiltern Chatter.
TIPS & RECOMMENDATIONS
- I checked the website and no age limit is specified. I would say it would be suitable for 4-5 years upwards but it really depends on your child’s ability and co-ordination. As long at they can hold a club and swing, then they should be fine 😉
- The car park was very busy when we went so worth bearing in mind that you may need to wait for a space or find parking in one of the nearby streets, I think I got the last parking space when we went.
- No golfing ability? No problem! Non of us could claim to be golfers be we all still had a great time. Topgolf is a game that anyone can play (and win).
The ‘Eat, Drink & Play’ offer mentioned above is valid in the school holidays but they also run the same offer every Tuesday during term time between 5 – 8pm. Find out more here https://topgolf.com/uk/cm/edp-tuesdays/
