At the weekend we visited Pluma in Old Amersham to celebrate my birthday and we had a truly wonderful evening. 

Upon arrival, Arantxa (who co-owns Pluma), greeted us warmly – the restaurant has a great ambience, very comfortable with a relaxed atmosphere.  When we visited (Saturday evening) it was busy and the only table that was available was inside at the front, however we were promised a table outside as soon as one became available. 

Our waiter was fantastic – very attentive and knowledgeable, talking us through the superb menu and specials with ease. We actually ended up choosing all of the waiters recommendations and they were all delicious. 

Mats and I shared 3 tapas to start with (to be honest I think 2 would of been enough) – our favourite was the squid in tempura with a lime mayo – very tasty and fresh! 

We moved to the gorgeous private courtyard garden for our main and dessert. It’s fully covered and has heaters for when it turns cooler. For the main we went for their signature dish of acorn fed 100% Iberian pork, accompanied by chargrilled piquillo peppers and triple cooked chips. The meat was sublime and melted in the mouth.  For dessert we shared the Burnt Basque cheesecake and raspberry sorbet and my husband declared it the best cheesecake he had ever eaten 😉 The food was delicious, really authentic Spanish dishes, packed full of flavour.  

Pluma is owned by husband and wife team Charlie & Arantxa. Charlie previously worked at Heston Blumenthal’s Hinds Head restaurant, in Bray, where he gained experience in a Michelin star environment and was soon voted as employee of the year. Charlie met Arantxa, in 2012, in Buckinghamshire. From the moment they met, Arantxa and Charlie have frequently travelled to Spain, where they share the same passion for the food, traditions and culture.

This is genuinely one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in the last couple of years – it’s up there with The Three Oaks. The food, the atmosphere, the wine, the service…. everything was perfect. An excellent addition to Amersham. All in all it’s a great restaurant if you’re looking to treat yourself or have a celebration.
