Yesterday we popped into the Lion of Beaconsfield for an impromptu lunch. I’d called ahead a few days before but being a bank holiday not surprisingly all the thatched heated huts in the garden were already booked. I was told to call on the day to see if they had availability, as they keep a number of tables for walk ins. We turned up around midday yesterday and luck was on our side, partly I’m sure due to the cold weather! We were greeted by a lovely young man and told we could pick a table. In addition to the 4 thatched huts, there are 6 picnic style tables and then a terraced area with additional table and chairs.
Being limited to outdoor service, they are offering a rotating and limited dining menu until full service resumes on May 17th (we were advised of the limited menu beforehand). On the menu yesterday were burgers (meat & veggie) & hot dogs, all of which are served with skinny fries. Burgers are my family’s idea of heaven!
I have to say the burgers were really tasty – a big fat juicy burger with the works (cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion) served in a brioche bun and skinny fries (my fave). We all really loved the food – high quality meat and the service was warm and friendly.
The price…. an unbelievable £44 for 4 burgers & fries and a hot dog & fries, a pint of Rebellion and a lime & soda. We tried to tip, but they said that as they are still getting the hang of things, they did not feel it’s right to accept any tips yet. This was very unexpected but a fantastic gesture, as we thought that the food was top quality and fantastic value. I really wish The Lion of Beaconsfield the best of luck. I’m already booked to go back next week with some friends for lunch! Definitely give them a try, you won’t be disappointed.
PS they are dog friendly and also close to lots of walking routes so a perfect starting or end point for a nice country walk.
