Emma & Jenny set up their Designer Dress Agency a year ago after a joint family holiday in Provence when they happened to stumble upon a wonderful preloved boutique in Arles. It was here that Emma fell in love with a beautiful pair of Chanel ballet pumps and by the time they got home, they had a plan. They would try and recreate this stylish shopping environment, selling beautiful preloved clothes and accessories at a fraction of the original cost. Both of them had some retail experience, but were completely unfamiliar with the daunting process of setting up a business from scratch. One year on, they are delighted with their journey so far and excited about what the future will bring. Yes, it has been hard work, but ultimately so rewarding to see their dream become a reality.

Over to Emma & Jenny…..

Home is……

Home is Gerrards Cross for Emma and Jordans village for Jenny. Vintage & Vogue is actually based in Jenny’s garden and is a perfect space to showcase our beautiful collection of sustainable fashion, but without the pressure of renting on the High Street. We are open every other Friday and Saturday or by appointment.

What are you up to right now?

We are busy in the studio preparing for our Christmas events. It is always exciting to help our clients find a special piece, that helps them stand out from the crowd. We stock an eclectic range of gently used dresses, separates and accessories and offer a range of sizes, so there is definitely something for everyone. It is so uplifting to see these gorgeous items getting a second lease of life!

Best piece of advice you have been given?

That we are essentially running a lifestyle business and we mustn’t let it take over! It is sometimes easy to get overwhelmed by all the jobs that need to be done, but they can nearly always wait. We both have other commitments and interests that need our attention, not least our wonderfully supportive families!

Who do you call when you want to have fun?

Often it’s each other! Even at work, people always say we look like we are having fun and that’s the way we would like it to stay! When we need a change, we love attending fashion related events as this gets us out of the studio and keeps us up to date with current trends.

We are also long-standing tennis partners, so regularly have coaching lessons together and play in ladies doubles matches at Gerrards Cross Tennis Club in Bull Lane.

Best meal you have had locally?

We both love The Three Oaks in Gerrards Cross as the food and ambiance are both excellent. Emma’s son also works there, so the service is rather good too! Brasserie Blanc in Beaconsfield is another favourite. The set lunch menu is brilliant value for the quality of the food!

Best place for a nightcap?

There is always a welcoming atmosphere in the Jolly Cricketers in Seer Green. It is such a friendly pub and a great place to meet up with friends. We have also done a couple of PopUp mornings here, as it is an ideal way to meet more ladies from the local community who are interested in either buying or selling designer pieces through us.

Favourite place for a coffee?

Neither of us drink coffee, but we are very partial to a Hot Chocolate from Nero’s in Gerrards Cross. Sets us up for a morning in the studio, pricing up all the latest arrivals!

Favourite shops?

We absolutely love the Cecilia Quinn shoe boutique in Old Amersham. They have the most stunning range of handmade Italian shoes that are designed to be both stylish and comfortable. We rent a weekly PopUp space from them every few months, which is a fabulous way for us to meet more potential clients, but it can be rather costly too, as the shoes are so hard to resist! We also love Iris next door as they stock such a wide selection of designer women’s fashion.

Last book you read?

We like to share books occasionally and the last one was particularly memorable. “Daisy Jones & The Six” by Taylor Jenkins Reid is a fabulously entertaining read and a totally believable tale of rock-and-roll excess. Plenty of fashion in there too!

Biggest extravagance?

Emma loves her designer handbags and I have an insatiable love of dresses. So we are definitely in the right business!

Can’t live without?

Definitely our families! They are becoming experts in all things preloved and we simply couldn’t do this without them.
