Marvellous Mum Emma Seddon set up her own business ‘Longcroft Luxury Cat Hotel‘ – the world’s first luxury boutique cat hotel on the outskirts of Amersham. Overcoming the challenges of project managing the building work, mix in the worst possible weather and 2 children, Emma succeeded in launching her business on time and opened the doors to the cat hotel in March 2014.

Sum up your business in a sentence:
The world’s first luxury boutique cat hotel.
What did you do before starting up your business?
IT Project Manager
When did you start your business and why?
March 2014 – I wanted to own and run my own business from home so that I could provide an exclusive service to cat owners whilst maintaining some flexibility when it comes to home/work balance when bringing up a young family.
The best part of your day / running your own business?
The best part of my day is spending time getting to know the individual needs of my furry guests so that I can tailor my service and day to their needs.
And the worst?
Is trying to manage an upset and hungry baby with a dirty and upturned litter tray just before a guest is due to check in or a client is scheduled to visit!
How do you juggle running a business and family life?
With style and finesse of course! But in reality with a high degree of organisational skills and the patience of a saint!
What challenges have you faced?
Getting past planning constraints, then project managing the build of the hotel in 16 days from start to finish in the worst wet weather possible as well as having one child start school and getting to grips with a 3 month old baby!
Your biggest success?
Being ready to open on time for our launch on 29th March and exceeding all expectations with our first 4 months occupancy and revenue figures.
What business tip/advice would you offer new mumpreneurs?
Do not underestimate the challenge of starting any business enterprise whilst looking after a very young baby. Make sure you have family members (or support) on hand to help and accept that you will be working extremely long hours for the first year with very few days off!
To be successful and have a recognised brand locally.
How do you relax?
Enjoying some time out and about with my horses as well as entertaining friends or family over a glass of wine and a good home cooked dinner.
What do you love most about where you live?
The countryside views and the close-knit community
What’s your favourite tipple?
Your simple pleasure?
My first coffee of the day in bed with both my daughters cuddled up to me, my husband beside me and our rescue cats Charlie and Lola at the end of the bed!
