My Organic Baby is a small family business, owned and run by me Cyreane Coates, a first and full time mum to a gorgeous little boy. The idea of My Organic Baby came to me during my pregnancy whilst searching for more natural and organic body care products as well as natural alternatives to ease some of the common pregnancy discomforts, when I realized that there are not many sites specializing in this field. I found that not many expecting or even new and subsequent mums out there are aware of the natural skincare products, the natural pain ease for labour or the natural support for the wonderful experience of breastfeeding, and that is were the idea of My Organic Baby was born.
Husband – Davin (29) Davrean (2), and second baby due in July 2013
Beauty and Sports Massage therapist.
Name & description of your business:
My Organic Baby, offering a wide variety of Natural and Organic skincare for pregnant mums, babies and children.
What gave you the inspiration to start your own business:
Being a beauty therapist I knew how important good skincare was, and through experience I also realised how much better and just as effective Natural skincare products could be. During my first pregnancy I wanted (and still do with this pregnancy) to use these natural, toxic free products on my skin, and to help with some of the common pregnancy complaints. I realised that there was not really a shop or website that sold everything I was looking for, for both myself and my new baby, It was such a hassle buying bits here and there. So I decided that I would like to have everything most mums need for both themselves and baby on one website, and also introduce more mums out there to a more natural body care regime for themselves and their children.
How did you go from having an idea to getting the business up and running?
I was lucky that I had a lot of experience with skincare and body care working as a therapist and I used to treat a lot of pregnant mums as well, mainly from my own experience and knowing what I as an expecting mum was looking for made it easier to come up with the idea, it has been a slow and long process to get to where I am now, and I can only hope that things will only get better.
How do you juggle running a business and family life:
I do only as much as I can, the flexibility of running your own business is great, plus it helps when you have a great partner and family to help out a little.
What’s your favourite family activity?
Just spending time together, any how anyway – as long as we are together
What’s the best & worst thing about having your own business?
Best thing is: Being my own boss, being flexibie and still being able to be a stay at home mum!
Worst: early days are some what stressful, and you make a lot of mistakes but that’s the way you learn and grow
What advice would you give new mumpreneurs?
Follow your dreams, don’t give up to early, its never easy to begin with but things always turn out for the better.
Where would you like to be in 5 years time?
I would like to be back- hands on -in the health, and well-being industry, and still having My Organic Baby as a successful business.
