Georgina Rodgers is an Amersham-based journalist, editor and writer with over 15 years’ experience working on magazines, newspapers, online and in busy television newsrooms.
She has authored nine non-fiction titles and five Sunday Times top ten bestsellers, including ghostwriting Tom Daley’s No. 1 bestselling autobiography, My Story and Tanya Burr’s No. 1 lifestyle bible, Love, Tanya.
Her latest title, Peace of Mind, written under her own name, is for harassed mother’s everywhere. This is a journal for them to take two minutes or twenty minutes a day for themselves. She is starting to practise what she preaches and alongside propping the baby on her lap while madly typing with one finger and a zillion other work and home tasks, she tries to take the odd few minutes out – her three-year-olds Frozen colouring pens have come in particularly useful of late.
Here are some of her favourite places:
This park has a good play park for children and woods perfect for exploring with little people. I also head here as regularly as I can to train at CCF with Chris, who holds a variety of weekly boot camp-style classes for all different fitness levels and ages. It is a really friendly group and a fun way of burning off some calories and I have become a real outdoor exercising convert. Website: click here.
The Grocer, Amersham old Town
Part deli, part kitchen, The Grocer is one of the best places to meet for a relaxed, delicious lunch in lovely surroundings. We often take our children there too and it is surprisingly baby and child-friendly. The food is particularly good – my husband and I are big fans of the toasties and home-made cake. Lindfield Pre-School Nursery
My eldest daughter goes to this pre-school and I just love it. The staff are brilliant and the atmosphere is so welcoming and nurturing. My daughter has grown in confidence and ability since attending and practically sprints away from me when we go because she is so happy to be there! For any mums with younger children, they run a Wednesday morning toddler group, where there are lots of age-appropriate toys for the children out, along with messy play, painting and sticking. Barracuda will need no introductions to anyone who lives in Amersham. Launching early in 2014, it has been rammed ever since but with good reason. Offering an all-day menu with breakfasts, burgers, salads, pizzas, jacket potatoes and a whole lot more besides, everything is freshly made with quality ingredients and priced very reasonably. The owner is very friendly and the service is excellent and if you haven’t been, then you must try it. Website: click here.
Natural History Museum, Tring
We often bring our eldest daughter here and it is fantastic. There are 4000 animals on display, including a full-sized gorilla and polar bears, right through to horses and zebras and marine life. There are two picnic areas outside, so if its sunny this is a great place to come to explore, then sit down to eat and best of all – it doesn’t cost a penny! Website: click here.
Peace of Mind: A Book of Calm for Busy Mums, published by Hodder & Stoughton, is published on February 25.
