We caught up with local mum of two, Robin Smirnov about her new business ‘Robin Sings’, which offers online Zoom singing lessons. Robin lives in Chesham Bois with her two children, Violetta, 14 and Viktor, 9. Over to Robin…
What were you doing before launching Robin Sings:
I have been singing my whole life and sang in my first opera chorus when I was 4! I was a gingerbread cookie in the opera Hansel and Gretel and I can still remember it vividly. The music, the stage and lights, the smell of the makeup… it was love at first sight! I trained at a music conservatory in the USA and received my post-graduate degree from the Royal Academy of Music in London. I’ve sung professionally throughout the USA, England and Italy in operas, recitals and professional choirs. I had a career break when my daughter was born but, now that my kids are older I have more time to teach!
Tell us about your Online Zoom singing lessons?
I’ve been teaching privately for 20 years and now in times of Corona 🦠😷 many music lessons are moving online via Zoom. It’s a great way to keep singing during these uncertain times and bring lots of happiness into our daily lives! Singing and performing give great confidence and poise that can be transferred into all areas of life. I’m classically trained but, I enjoy teaching all types of music and want my students to sing what makes them happy and helps them to achieve their own personal goals. I also enjoy preparing my students for auditions and exams and can offer really great tips for polishing up your already prepared pieces. First impressions are so important and sometimes just learning how to walk into an audition room is half the battle! Once you’ve mastered this, walking into school or university interviews is a piece of cake! Singing builds confidence!
A 30 minute lesson (£20) is a great way for kids to start and teenagers and adults often choose an hour lesson (£40). In lessons we work on breathing, even tone throughout your vocal range, posture, the basics of music theory and of course, singing!
