Alongside the Style Hall, Niki is a Tropic Skincase Ambassador. We caught up with Niki about her business journey so far…
I have been running The Style Hall for nearly 4 years, helping take the stress out of dressing & giving women confidence in their clothes by finding the right colours and styles to suit their skin tone, lifestyle, personality and body shape.
I started as a Tropic skincare ambassador just over a year ago and now use the make-up to demonstrate the best make-up colours as part of the colour analysis process
What inspired you to start The Style Hall / Tropic Skincare?
I love making women feel great about the way they look and confident in their clothes. I have become increasingly aware of using ethical brands that are kind to the environment & the skin, are vegan, carbon neutral and chemical free. Tropic is all of those things and more, the products are 100% natural and smell divine, feel great on the skin and are not expensive. They also sell body washes, hair care, products for men as well as the make-up and skincare
What were you doing beforehand?
I set up and ran a kid’s clothes business for 7 years, which fitted around my children when they were little.
How did you get started?
I did a lot of research to find the right company for my training. They still offer ongoing updates as there is always more to learn. Tropic offers regular training too as there is so much to learn about skincare
What has been the greatest challenge so far?
Juggling all aspects of running a business and family life. I am an Image consultant because I love helping women feel great about the way they look, but when you run a business you also have to be a marketeer, PR & social media expert, accountant, Mum, cook, cleaner … the list goes on. Until you make enough money to pay somebody to take on some of the jobs you are not so good at!
And the greatest success?
Most of my business comes from referrals. There is no better compliment than being recommended by previous customers. And with Tropic I was top sales person last year in my team!
What’s a ‘normal’ day for you?
There is no normal day and that’s what I love so much. Every day is different. Clients usually come to me for a colour and style session. However, I could be visiting them at home and decluttering their wardrobe or meeting them for a shopping trip.
I lend out the Tropic products for people to try and host pamper parties which are great fun and the best way to try the products. So, some mornings or evenings I may be hosting a party in somebody’s home.
What’s your favourite Tropic product?
I LOVE everything because I feel like I am feeding my skin with a healthy fresh smoothie. However if I had to choose it would be Tamanu Balm, which I use for everything from bites, stings, cuts, grazes, burns to sore lips. It’s fabulous and goes everywhere with me.
How do you stay productive, motivated and at the top of your game?
When you are your own boss this can sometimes be tricky, so I plan my diary to ensure everything gets done. I am a great list writer! I work for myself so that I am around for my children but can also go the gym and see friends in the week. So, if I plan the diary well, I get my work done and the rest keeps me motivated.
Do you have any tips for others?
I love what I do, which makes working very easy so my tip would be find something which you love doing and it won’t feel like work!
AND JUST FOR FUN….
Which part of the Chilterns do you live in? Chalfont St Giles
Favourite thing to do at the weekend? Walking across the fields in the sunshine and having a drink with friends in the local pub or visiting my family on the Isle of Wight
Favourite way to relax? See above!!
Favourite place to eat out? I don’t really have a favourite place, we are so lucky to have so many lovely places locally. I tried The Red Lion in Coleshill recently – a great little pub, extremely friendly and delicious home cooked food!
Best thing about the Chilterns? It’s so close to London and yet it’s very green and feels quite rural. I love to be able to walk from my house, we are very lucky.
If you were on a Desert Island and could only bring 3 things what would you bring? It would have to be my Tamanu balm, a bar of Dairy Milk (I love chocolate!) and something to play music on.
