When & why did you start Addie & Harry?
I started Addie & Harry in 2016 whilst I was a full time mum to my three sons. It started off as a bit of a hobby, I have always enjoyed designing and have a passion for interiors. My background is in textiles and after having the boys realised there was a huge gap in the market for stylish children’s bedding. Fast forward 4 years and my product range has grown and evolved around my needs as a busy mum for high quality, stylish products for my boys.
What were you doing before?
After studying a textile degree at University, I worked predominantly in buying and product development roles within retail companies, such as Ralph Lauren and The White Company.
What does a typical day look like for you?
I’m up early for the school run and usually spend most of the morning fulfilling orders and catching up with admin.
What are the key interior trends for children’s interiors?
2020 has seen the natural world providing most of the inspiration for children’s interiors. Sustainability is key, over recent years there has been a big rise in children’s brands who offer high quality items produced with nature and community in mind. Natural fibres such as cotton come to mind. Oeko-Tex certified cotton means it has been certified free from substances harmful to human ecology – that means harmless to people and, to a larger extent, the environment too, which makes it a popular choice for children’s products.
I would have to say our Mini Dino bedding. It was my first design and has remained one of our bestsellers.
What’s your interior style?
My personal style, a bit like my brand is quite simple and pared down. I like lots of neutral tones, white and grey, which I feel is calming in the home.
How do you spend your time when you’re not running Addie & Harry?
When I’m not running Addie & Harry I love spending time with my family, we enjoy having friends over for dinner and as a family with three boys we love the outdoors!
How do you juggle family life and running your own business?
It’s a huge task to run a business around a young family, but the positives definitely outweigh the negatives. The flexibility it gives me for the children is great. I wanted to be the one to drop them at school and collect them at the end of the day and go to all the important events in their life, such as class assemblies and end of year shows etc. So yes, it’s busy, but I try to keep my working hours within school time so I can be there for them. Work does tend to overspill into the weekends and evenings, especially whilst growing the business, but putting in place automated systems has helped reduce this.
What does the future hold for Addie & Harry?
We’ve got lots of exciting new products in the pipeline! We’re just about to launch our new babywear and kids pyjama range, all made in Oeko-tex certified cotton and I’m working on some gender neutral bedding designs. So watch this space!
