During the Easter holidays, I met up with friends at Rickmansworth Aquadrome. I hadn’t been for a while, and whilst there, I spotted that the café had expanded and opened a new farm style shop.

The shop is open the same hours as the café and sells a great range of organic fruit and veg, meat sourced directly from local farms from animals that are grass reared and free of unnecessary antibiotics. The owners choose their suppliers carefully and only buy from farmers who practise traditional, free-range farming methods without the use of unnecessary antibiotics. They also have all the items you need in your store cupboards to produce healthy and tasty meals.

We couldn’t resist the Nut Butter Mill where you can grind nuts to make fresh nut butter (which is essentially nuts that have been ground up into a smooth, creamy consistency). The lady in the shop was lovely and suggested that we sample the nut butter before buying 😉 As my children are chocoholics we went for the Organic Hazelnut & milk chocolate butter and boy was it yummy 😉 It tasted similar to the filling in Ferrero Rocher chocolates.

The nut butters are made from 100% organic nuts lightly roasted with a sprinkling of slat (many commercially produced nut butters have flavourings, palm oil and preservatives mixed in). You can either take in your own container or they also have jam jars that you can use. The cost of the nut butter is by weight, so a full jam jar cost just under £6 but obviously the cost depends on how big your jar is.

We also picked up some Chiltern BBQ sauce and marinade, which is made with Chiltern Oak Smoked Rapeseed Oil and can be used as a marinade, basting or topping for beef, lamb, chicken and pork. It’s also great on burgers and sausages.

If you’re heading to the Aquadrome, definitely pop in, it’s a nice little addition to the café. The shop & café are on the edge of the Aquadrome, 100 acres of woods, lakes and grass and just a few steps from a large, free car park.
