Make sure Hitchin Lavender, a family-run farm which paints one Hertfordshire hillside a vivid purple every summer, is on your hit list of places to visit this summer. From late May to mid August, the farm’s 35 miles of lavender rows are yours to explore.

The farm has some spectacular views of rural Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire and there are many interesting walks nearby. Visits to the farm are slightly different this year. Time slots need to be pre booked to help stagger visitors entering the farm plus all tickets are non picking, with the aim of increasing the flow in the lavender rows and also reducing contamination risk with scissors.

Picnics are allowed and there are refreshments and plenty of cake on site.  The farm shop will operate from the field.  The barn and play area will not be open

There’s also a field full of sunflowers which will be in bloom mid August onwards and another field scattered with wild flowers, which makes for pretty photo opportunities. Keep an eye on the Facebook page for updates to time your visit. Flowering time is mid June until Mid August.
