WWI Living history event
Come and meet costumed World War One soldier re-enactors and find out what life would have been like for them. Listen to folk singers singing WWI folk songs and see a replica Airco DH2 plane. Visit the Museum’s Dig for Victory allotment and explore the 1940s post war prefab house.
WWI Nissen hut
Just over a year a go the Museum launched a campaign to find a WWI Nissen hut to complement the WWII Nissen hut already on site. The campaign was launched on social media and we were lucky enough to be given two Nissen huts! One of the WWI Nissen huts is currently being restored behind the scenes and will begin to be reconstructed on site throughout 2018. We hope a lot of the Nissen hut will be reconstructed and in position onsite for this event. It will be positioned next to the WWII Nissen hut, in a line like Nissen huts of the time often were. Our team of volunteers have been busy collecting local WWI stories that will form part of the Nissen hut’s interpretation once it is completed. The third Nissen hut will be reconstructed at a later date with the intention of being used to provide additional visitor services on site.
