A special VE Day celebration
Friday 8th May marks the 75th anniversary of victory in Europe following six years of WWII conflict. The day has been designated as a Bank Holiday and the museum will be holding a special 1940s themed event across both the Friday and the Saturday.
The museum has invited Jeep, Jump, Jive who will be playing music of the era from their restored US Army Air Force Jeep. There will be Lindy Hop social dancing, which is a swing dance brought over from America by GIs during WWII. Everyone will be able to get involved with fun classes for all ages.
You can also take the opportunity to explore their 1940s post-war prefab, their 'Dig for Victory' allotment, and their reconstructed WWI and WWII Nissen huts to learn more about both wars and some local war heroes. Leagrave Cottage will also be specially re-dressed for the 1940s so that you can see the type of home which many children from London would have been evacuated to.
