Think you know Thame, famous for being "Causton" in Midsomer Murders? Why not try a fun
Think you know Thame, famous for being "Causton" in Midsomer Murders? Why not try a fun adventure race for all the family. There's a twist though - we give you a map and you have to find a series of checkpoints around the town as fast as you can! It's great fun and children love finding the checkpoints!
It’s a bit like a competitive treasure hunt to find a series of checkpoints around your chosen course. They might be around Cuttlebrook, Elms Park, the alleys around the Cornmarket, or around the complex paths and streets of Lea Park. They’re marked by flags on the ground and we give you an electronic timing chip to tag each checkpoint and prove you’ve been to them. The challenge arises by there being no set route between the checkpoints and you have to choose your own way, using a special orienteering map of the streets, alleys and parks of Thame. You'll see plenty of the Midsomer Murders filming locations!
Race HQ is at Thame Town Hall, close to the town centre car parks. There will be courses for all ages and abilities, including children and families (and longer ones for runners, or mums and dads wanting a longer course!).
This event is organised by Thames Valley Orienteering Club and supported by Thame Town Council. Just turn up on the day and enter: £8 for shorter courses, £16 for longer courses (£6 solo juniors). Groups just pay one rate (not per person) - so a family of four would be £16 in total, on a long course. Your entry fee includes a special waterproof map of Thame, to keep as a souvenir, hire of a timing chip, plus a print out of your splits and result at the finish.
No experience is necessary to have a go. There will be plenty of help on hand for newcomers. There will be seven courses to choose from, from 2km up to 8km, taking around 30-90 mins to complete.
Just come along on the day to Thame Town Hall and our friendly Welcome Team will help you choose a suitable course – any time between 9.30am to 11.30am and don’t forget your sense of adventure!
