Event Details

Creative Thursdays are a new, 2018 Summer Holiday initiative at Chiltern Open Air Museum. Children and Young People can visit the Museum on Thursdays from 26th July until the 30th August and take part in the National Arts Award scheme at Discover level.

Arts Award Discover

Every Creative Thursday visitors will have the opportunity to take part in Arts Award Discover. On these Thursdays we will play host to expert artists and traditional craftspeople demonstrating and offering creative activities for you to engage with and learn from. You will also have the opportunity to create a piece of artwork of your own to take home. The Arts Award is a nationally recognised qualification for children and young people aged between 5 and 25 years of age. There are five levels from Discover through to Gold. Arts Award Discover is an introductory Award for young people from age 5 upwards. The Arts Award is a great way for children and young people to:
  • Participate in arts activities
  • Find out about artists and their work
  • Learn new skills and share them
Chiltern Open Air Museum is a big supporter of the arts and is a registered Arts Award Centre for Moderation. To take part:
  • Download a bespoke logbook from the Museum website or purchase a copy at the ticket office
  • Remember to collect a set of gold star stickers from the ticket office when you arrive
  • Bring a pencil (and some colouring materials if you would like to)
The Arts Award Discover is a fantastic way to explore the Museum and the different art forms around it. You can participate in creative activities, find out about artists and their work and share what you have done with others. To take part you will need to complete our Arts Award Discover logbook. This is an, A4 book that will help you discover the various art forms found around the Museum and suggest activities that you could take part in. You can finish your Arts Award logbook during one visit or you can visit the Museum on many different Thursdays (Annual Pass or entrance costs will apply for each visit). You can also include any creative crafts or arts that you enjoy making away from the Museum site. Completed logbooks (and any accompanying creations) will need to be brought to the Museum (left in the ticket office) for assessment. Please bring a SAE with you (these are available for purchase from us) and we will post your logbook back to you, with your certificate, once your logbook has been assessed by our Arts Award team. We must receive all completed logbooks by 20th September 2018
