At the weekend we ventured over to Rushmere Country Park in Leighton Buzzard, about a 50 minute drive from the Chalfonts. This was our visit time visiting and definitely won’t be our last. The park itself is massive and is a fantastic space for kids to run around and explore – you could easily spend half a day here!

There are over 400 acres of woodland, heathland and meadows, a visitors centre, picnic area and there are woodland walks including a self led sculpture trail (access for all path starts outside the Visitor centre) Giant’s Chair, family cycling and horse-riding routes plus dogs are welcome.  You can view the walking and cycling tracks here.

Food & drink: The Tree Tops Restaurant and Deck (in the Visitor Centre) is open daily 10am – 4pm and The Hatch offer a  takeaway service, open 9.30am – 4pm daily – see picture below. More details about the food offering can  also be viewed here.

There is also a big picnic area with tables – perfect for the warmer months!

Parking: Car parking has a new ANPR system where you must pay before you leave the car park as their is no payment possible at the exit barrier. When we visited (around 2pm on a Saturday) there were still plenty of spaces available, although I imagine in the summer it would get busy

Cost: Free but you pay for parking.

What we loved: It’s a cheap day out and it’s a very pretty spot!

Verdict:  Stunning scenery and so many trails to choose from! It’s a great place for families. Would love to return in the summer and take advantage of the picnic area!
