QUICK WARDROBE TIPS FOR BUSY MUMS
We have all had that moment when we put our kids first and run out of the house looking like we’ve just got out of bed . The kids on the other hand have eaten, washed, hair done and look presentable, we as busy Mums always put ourselves and our needs on the back burner. Don’t you feel like you can achieve more when you look in the mirror and your reflection shows that of a well groomed, comfortable yet confident woman. As a personal stylist (and a very busy working Mum to two little ladies!) I find that having the wardrobe basics are key factors in making sure I don’t leave the house looking and feeling like I’ve just rolled out of bed.
Here are some of my staples that ensure I can leave the house on time yet still looking ok!
A good flat shoes; personally I love ballet pumps but a smart trainer style such as Converse also work a treat. If Converse aren’t for you, try somewhere like Boden or even Primark for canvas lace up’s that work well with jeans.
Blazer; every wardrobe needs one! You can throw one on over the top of a plain old tee and it pulls together a smart casual look with no effort at all. Try Zara, New Look and H&M.
Scarf; another simple addition to a plain top to add not only warmth but colour or print to a plain outfit. Wear it loose or wrapped around.
Mint Velvet £35
Breton Tee’s; long sleeved, short sleeved, thin or fat stripes, they can work on all shapes and sizes. Zara do the best in terms of washing well and don’t loose their shape or colour. If you’re on a budget, you can’t go wrong with Primark.
Trench coat; think of it as your dressing gown for outdoors! It hides a multi-tude of sins underneath when you really don’t have time to think about your clothes. It also cinches in your waist and smartens up any look.
Marks & Spencer £79
Jeans; make sure these are well cut and suited to your shape. Try Topshop for their famous Baxter skinny or Next for their amazing Lift, Slim & Shape. Gap also have a great selection. Remember, a good pair of jeans takes time to find, so don’t buy them in a hurry, allow plenty of trying on time.
Chino’s; perfect for the warmer months with a ballet pump or sandal, a great alternative to jeans. Gap are the High Street Hero for chino’s.
Shirt; plain white or patterned/check it needs minimal thought and goes with skirts, trousers or jeans, tucked in or left out.
The White Company £65
My top tip is to use print or colour on your favourite body part to not only accentuate and drawer attention to them but also your own attention so that you’re focusing on the positive, not the negatives. And if all else fails, chuck on a hat and some lippy. I always have a gloss in the car or my coat pocket for a quick pick me up.
