A weekend of Roald Dahl Day celebrations – Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 September 11am to 5pm
Celebrate Roald Dahl’s birthday and the launch of the new edition of Billy and the Minpins, illustrated for the first time by Quentin Blake. We’ve planned a weekend jam-packed with activities. Come along and create a World of Minpins, the tiny tree-dwelling people, saved by Billy from the fearsome Gruncher: decorate a Minpin home and help our roving noise-napper capture some swashboggling sounds to build a Minpin forest soundscape.
We’ll have Minpin storytelling sessions throughout the weekend along with magical Minpin crafts, balloon modelling and a roving magician, tours of Roald Dahl’s archive and guided Village Trails, pointing out the places that feature in the stories.
See our Billy and the Minpins exhibition which brings together a selection of prints from Quentin’s brand-new drawings, with extracts copied from Roald’s original manuscripts for the book. Almost 40 years after his first collaboration with Roald Dahl, Quentin Blake was asked this year to illustrate Billy and the Minpins, Roald’s last story. The tiny Minpins themselves are a magic, hidden secret that only Billy truly knows, but we are allowed a glimpse of them through Quentin’s sparky new drawings. The exhibition continues until April 2018.
All activities are free with Museum entry except the World of Minpins workshops and Archive Talks.
