Despite the fickle British weather, ticket sales to watch films in the open air have tripled in three years and luckily for us there are lots of places locally to visit. Popcorn at the ready, here’s our round up in chronological order…..
FIREFLY EVENTS: Holmer Green School, 6th July
The Holmer Green Parents Association have organised a pop up cinema screening of The Greatest Showman at Holmer Green Senior School on Saturday 6th July with 500 tickets for sale via the school website www.hgss.co.uk The event is raising money towards a school expansion project. There will be a bar and lots of external caterers on the night & a flash mob choir!
REGAL PICTURE HOUSE: Henley, 25TH – 27TH JULY
Regal Picture House returns to Henley on Thames for two weekends (20-22nd June and 25th – 27th July) of summery outdoor screenings at the riverside location in Mill Meadows. Arrive from 7.00pm to enjoy the last of the evening sun with a fantastic range of drinks from our pop-up bar, including draught beer. The film will start around 9.30pm – as soon as it gets dark. Before the film there will be entertainment in the form of garden games and our very own film quiz – prizes will be up for grabs!
The screenings take place in the open, so feel free to bring along blankets, cushions or small picnic chairs – however, these must be placed towards the rear of the grass area. Check what’s showing here.
Family Film & Food Night: Peterley Manor Farm, 27th July
Head to the farm this summer for a night of food, film and entertainment in the yurt’s gardens and surrounding meadows. On Saturday 27th July they will be showing “Mary Poppins Returns” in their outdoor pop-up cinema, an evening for all the family to enjoy.
Doors will open at 6.30pm where you’ll be able to enjoy the sunset ambience, roast your own ‘smores on the firepits and enjoy the outdoor game area. You will also be treated to a range of local pop-up food stalls including Monsta Pizza– serving wood-fired pizzas straight from the monster’s mouth!, Ozi Lala – feasts from the mideast, Rumseys– crepes and hand-made ice creams from local chocolatiers, The Swig and Filly– horsebox bar stocked wth local spirits, wines and cocktails, Mad Squirrel Beer Cruiser- contemporary beers from Herforshire based brewery and the Wild Strawberry Cafe– hot drinks and snacks from the yurt cafe
After the sun sets (they anticipate around 9.30pm) the movie night will commence in their beautiful meadow setting.
EVERYMAN PRESENTS… SECRET GARDEN AT THE GROVE, 1st – 31st August
Everyman Cinema will be taking over the Secret Garden at The Grove Hotel this August bringing the first every outdoor cinema to the hotel. Head along between 1 – 31 August 2019 (Wednesday – Sunday) and enjoy a pre-screening dinner at The Glasshouse or The Stables, followed by a film at the Everyman pop up cinema in the Walled Garden.
Guests are invited to settle in amid the greenery and enjoy the show in the sun or snuggle under the stars – you decide. Featuring a selection of classic and newly released films including: A Star is Born, ET, The Secret Garden, Fight Club, Black Panther, Gone Girl, Matilda, Peter Rabbit, Leon, The Greatest Showman and lots more (see full list of films and dates here)
TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE FOR HOTEL RESIDENTS AND GUESTS ON CINEMA DINING PACKAGES. SUPPER & THE CINEMA AT THE GLASSHOUSE STARTS AT £59 PER ADULT AND £30 PER CHILD. SUPPER & THE CINEMA AT THE STABLES SUPPER AND CINEMA PACKAGES START AT £45 PER ADULT AND £22 PER CHILD.
NEIGHBOUR CINEMA: Chiltern Open Air Museum, 15th – 18th August
Last year, Neighbourhood Cinema took over Chiltern Open Air Museum to show some of the worlds most loved movies under the stars and they are back again this year!! Films include: The Greatest Showman, Jurassic Park, Dirty Dancing, Bohemien Rhapsody, Mamma Mia and A Star is Born. Tickets will be on sale soon!
THE LUNA CINEMA: Waddesdon Manor, 13th – 15th September
A Star is Born, Mamma Mia! Here we go again and Bohemian Rhapsody will all be showing on the big screen at Waddesdon Manor.
OUTDOOR CINEMA: Burham Park Hall, 20th September
By popular demand Burnham Park Hall bring to you this year, The Greatest Showman. Bring your own beanbags, blankets, camping chairs etc. Food and drinks will be available to purchase on the night. The event is FREE but the organiser ask that you buy your food and drink from their vendors and bars, (they bring these events to the community for free but cannot do so without your support.)
