A breath of fresh air

We used the 2 for 1 voucher on Chiltern Chatter so was really good value, but it's definitely worth considering the annual pass as this offers good value for money plus they seem to have a good selection of events on every weekend. It's a lovely day out and great for the kids to explore the great outdoors and roam around. We did the candle making (the smaller candles costs 95p each) which the kids really enjoyed (and again good value for money) although I did feel that the gentleman helping us was pitching his stories at adults rather than younger children - he was lovely though. The cafe is nice, but fairly small & basic. It did have a good selection of cakes, ice cream etc. We popped in there to get a take away tea before heading to the playground for a quick play before heading home. I'm considering an annual pass as we will locally so worth it if you're at a loose end one weekend and want to pop out.

Back to basics

We went to COAM at the weekend and it reminded me of why I love it so much :) It's very basic, but that's one of its great charms. I love the fact that it's an outdoor museum so the kids can run about, burn off some energy, inbetween learning some interesting facts. We visited the iron age house and the iron mongers where we saw a demo. We also headed along to the adventure playground - it's not an extensive playground but it's lovely as it's so peaceful and quiet. There are always loads of events on at the museum so it's worth having a look at their website to see what's on - when we went it was the Roman Amy, so we watched a re-enactment of a battle :) If your local it's worth getting an annual pass. A lovely, back to basics day out!

A great place to let the kids run around

The Open Air Museum is a great place to let your kids run around. It is usually very very quiet and cheap (especially the annual family membership). They sometimes have a few events on, so check their website.

There are a number of old buildings to look at, loads of open space, a few horses and sheep and a nice play area.
