We started our venture at the end of 2018 when we were both looking for a creative outlet and a job that would fit around our busy lives with six children between us. Sally has a background as a writer and producer for TV and Jeanette is a former fashion buyer with an arty degree. We’re both very fond of gin and most of our business planning seems to take place on our infamous Gin Fridays.
We’re also very good friends (and neighbours) who live in Chalfont St Peter and have put our skills in writing and drawing together to create bespoke poems and pictures. We work by commission to make show stopping gifts that are 100% unique. We’ve written poems for milestone birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, retirements, Christmas and any other occasion you can think of. It’s the most gratifying job in the world to help our customers put into words and pictures how they feel about the most important people in their lives. Many of our clients are local but we’ve shipped our framed pressies as far afield as Singapore, New York and Newcastle. We’re not always able to share our work on social media as the nature of it is so personal to our customers but there are still plenty of examples to see on our website – www.theprettywittycompany.co.uk
Here Jeanette & Sally share with you their favourite places to go and what the local area has to offer.
What do you love most about where you live?
J and S – the close proximity to beautiful countryside AND London. Living in-between Chalfont St Peter and Gerrards Cross everything that we need is within walking distance. We also love the friendships built through our children being at school and through our neighbours.
Favourite place to…..
….go for a meal at:
J – Lomito – their cocktails and steaks are delicious.
How do you relax?
What’s your favourite tipple?
J – gin!!
S – gin!!
Top dinner party guest?
J – Stephen Fry – he has an incredible way with words
S – Tom Hanks – A brilliant man who’s worked with lots of my favourite writers (and would have lots of juicy stories to tell).
J – Wow that’s a tricky question! We’re both in book clubs and love reading. One that has stayed with me is The Help by Kathryn Stockett but I’m currently reading Bill Bryson’s A Guide for Occupants and re-reading Little Women.
One thing on your bucket list?
J – I’d love to do a Nordic road trip with the kids to re-discover my Scandi heritage. And I’d like to learn how to do the splits.
S – To finish my book and see it in the GX bookshop! To have more travel adventures with my kids before they no longer want to come on holiday. Hopefully it’ll involve lots of local music – love a bit of marimba or anything you don’t hear at home. I can already do the splits – though it’s not pretty!
